On a Wednesday lunchtime my father would cycle home with a set of comics that were published everywhere. They included The Beezer, Whizzer and Chips and The Dandy.
My brother and I would also cycle home from school everyday at luchtime. We both knew that Wednesday was comic day and the lunchtime would always be more interesting browsing these freshly printed comics.
In the evening after school my brother and I would continue reading these comics cover to cover. When they were finished they would be 'filed' under the bed for future reading.

Grimm's Fairy Tales illustrated by Arthur Rackham
I taught myself to read with this book - loving the powerful illustrations.

I adored reading all the myths and legends in a set of Arthur Mee's Children's Encyclopaedias but my all time favourite read - Black Beauty!
One of my first memories of reading was my sister reading ‘Please Mrs Butler’ by Alan Ahlberg to me on a long car journey to Devon.
