for the United Kingdom Literacy Association 2007-9
Public Profile and Sphere
of Influence
- Continue to extend
the Association’s role in promoting literacy education.
- Continue to liaise with external bodies and groups, including government agencies.
- Continue to ensure that UKLA plays an active and strategic role in informing and influencing national policy.
Website
- Establish a web-development task group.
- Conduct a review of officers/members use of the website.
- Extend the provision offered for members.
Management
- Sustain the induction support for UKLA administrator.
- Ensure sufficient space for UKLA office/resources.
- Increase communication and sub committee chair awareness of administrative function.
- Continue support of offices and committee members in their roles.
Finance
- Put in place effective financial monitoring.
- Provide financial details of Association as and when required.
- Ensure financial planning supports and further develops the work of the Association.
Conferences
- Pilot a scheme with 2/3 regional representatives establishing liaison teams with LA advisors, universities, librarians.
- Liaise with other organisations/SIGs for national conferences.
- Pilot a scheme in Liverpool for local teachers to shortlist for the Children’s Book Award.
International
- Continue participation in IDEC together with continue collaboration to establish the Federation of European Literacy Associations (FELA).
- Consolidation and development of ‘Books for Africa’ project.
- Investigate establishing an exchange with another national association.
- Re-examine the criteria/advertising for sponsorship at international conference.
Membership and Awards
- Increase membership of NQTs by supporting NQT sub group initiatives.
- Widen advertising for awards and continue to organize and publicize.
- Establish the role of honorary members of the Association.
Marketing and Publicity
- Develop a marketing strategy.
- Complete the non-members database to use for targeted marketing.
- Co-ordinate the work of all sub-committees in the area of marketing.
- Develop the web site as a marketing tool.
Publications
- Develop the scope and responsibilities of committee members.
- Increase publicity for UKLA publications.
- Develop the publications section of the website.
Research
- Further develop the dissemination of the Association’s research work.
- Review and publish research criteria and policies.
- Continue to promote interest in the UKLA Research Prize and the Helen Arnold research award for reading.
Leadership
- Negotiate and support regional representatives in developing their role within the Association.
- Continue to involve those influential in literacy education in the work of the Association.
- Provide members with support for career development through conferences, research and publication opportunities, membership of sub-committees, task groups and Special Interest Groups.
- Involve and support the new President Elect and Vice President in their new roles.
