The United Kingdom Literacy Association (UKLA) has announced the shortlist for a new award, sponsored by publishers Wiley-Blackwell. The award will be presented annually from 2008, to an article judged to be exemplary in terms of the criteria for publication in each of The Journal of Research in Reading and Literacy. Both of these well respected, refereed journals attract international submissions. The winning articles will be determined by a panel of literacy experts. The award and citation will be presented to the authors of the winning articles by a representative of Wiley – Blackwell at UKLA’s 44th UKLA International Conference to be held at Liverpool Hope University from July 11th -13th.
Short listed authors say they are honoured to have been entered for this award. Teresa Cremin, UKLA President and Professor of Literacy Education at the Open University, said ‘Quality literacy research is vital if we are to ensure that all children become literate members of society. UKLA wishes to celebrate and recognize the work of our best researchers and practioners.’
