English 4-11

English 4-11 is published jointly by The English Association and UKLA.  The magazine has a reader - friendly approach, backed by sound pedagogy, to inspire teachers to try out new ideas to develop their own practice. Each issue is designed to include articles ranging from Early Years through to Year 6 and secondary, which may be accounts of innovative practice, reports of classroom research, interviews with authors or articles to spark discussion. Each issue includes reviews of books, videos, software and other resources for teachers and children.

Published in Autumn, Spring and Summer, every year English 4-11 hosts the Best Books Awards for the best illustrated children’s books of the year in four categories: Fiction and Non-Fiction at Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. The prizes are awarded at the English Association’s Annual General Meeting each May, and the winning and short-listed books are featured in a full-colour insert in the summer issue of the journal.

The editorial board welcomes submissions. Articles (between 1,000 and 3,000 words) can be submitted by sending the final draft of your article, preferably by email, to: or by post to English 4-11, English Association, University of Leicester, Leicester, LE1 7RH. Please enclose with your article either an English 4-11 Article Submission Form, obtainable from the above address, or full details as outlined on the form. A Contributor Guidance Pack is available.
